The
Search Filter is the interface that allows users to communicate
with our server when searching for property sales. The REDS Search Filter
has three columns:
Field names, Comparisons and Criteria. Twelve Field
names and five Comparisons offer numerous combinations. Drop down menus
here make selections quick and easy. Criteria must be entered by the user.
Seven lines on the Search Filter allow up to seven
parameters to be applied in one search. Think of each line on the filter as a statement about
the subject of your search. For example: show all property sales with a
Price that is greater than or equal to the dollar
amount of 250000. Do a
simple search by using only one line on the Search Filter. Or, use all
seven lines to create an unlimited number of complex, dynamic database queries.
After composing and submitting a Search Filter, the
database server will process your request in less time than it takes your
browser to display the results. For the purpose of optimizing server
system resources, the REDS Online database is configured to display up to
seventy-five (75) records at one time. If the number of records which
satisfy your search parameters exceed 75, the Search Filter screen will
automatically redisplay. When this happens, you will be prompted to
resubmit additional Criteria.
The remaining lessons of this tutorial will focus on using
the Search Filter, viewing search results and printing reports. Please
keep in mind that the examples on the following pages are rarely the only way to
compose a search request. The Search Filter is very flexible. A
search request can often be composed different ways with exactly the same
results.
